My brother lives in Brazil. He occasionally sends me videos of harrowing gun fights between police and gangs. Quite horrific. He is not keen on Third World immigration to the West because he believes that institutions are shaped by the people, not the other way round; hence, the poverty and crime in Brazil. As UPenn professor Amy Wax recently asked: “If immigrants are so great, why are their countries such sh*tholes?” While her tone is abrasive, I think it’s a reasonable question.
Perhaps the immigrants are ethically or intelectually great enough to recognize their origin country as shitholes and that they are unable to chenge them as their countries are controlled by powerfull mobs, so the sensible thing for them to do is move out of them
