Interesting article. I live in France, where Americans often boast of the extremely cheap dental and healthcare.
The reality is, most of the prices are set by the government. The provider has no choice. And, France has taken on an enormous amount of debt to fund their healthcare system.
There is also a peculiar issue where the French dental schools are extremely competitive to get into. But, France also will accept a dental degree from countries like Romania or Spain, so it has made the market for dentists very competitive.
If it’s of interest, I wrote about France “free “healthcare and care here
Next time, and holping you do not need any other procedures, you should take a look at Brazil. Here we have excess of supply of professional dentist with prices falling down. And dental plans are growing year after year on the contrary of his overregulated brother health plan. Best regards
I go to Colombia even for teeth cleaning (for other reasons, too, not just for that) and medical care is just way cheaper, and for a non-insured private paying patient, the service is superb!
I have been to Guatemala numerous times (I volunteer with an educational non-profit in Guatemala City), but this is the first time I've heard of an American traveling *to* Guatemala for medical tourism reasons. I'm sure you're not the only one, it's just the first I've read on it.
